203 POUNDS HALF WAY THERE

203 Pounds, while it still sounds pretty heavy the number marks 20 pounds lost. I am now over 50% of the way to the completion of the weight loss portion of my life change. I have noticed some changes:
• I no longer have acid reflux at night.
• My cloths fit better
• I look thinner
• I am not as hungry as I used to be

A few things have surprised me; by far the biggest is that by counting calories I actually lost weight. So many diets are full of such hokey-ness that I think they have given healthy eating a bad name. For example, I do not understand how you can eat all the bacon you want and expect to loose weight. Unlike other diets, counting calories has not been a diet that lets me eat everything I want all the time. It does make you think of the trade offs of all or your food and exercise choices.

The second surprise is that while my cloths fit better and I look thinner, I still have a belly and my cloths are not falling to the ground. I think many people (including myself) are just not aware (or deny) how big they really are. I have lost 10% of my body weight and I am still a big guy.

I am really trying not to think of this experience as a diet, but more as a correction that will get me going in the correct path for long term healthiness.

204.5, 255, AND 202

204.5 Pounds – what a disappointing number. This week I reached no milestones, not 20 pounds lost or 20 to go (203 and 204 pounds respectively). My weight loss has slowed a little in the last couple of weeks down from over 2 pounds per week to closer to 1.5 pounds per week in September. Not a tremendous change but noticeable as I still weigh myself every day and frustration sets in easily if the number changes only once a week.

255 and 202 Total Cholesterol and Bad (LDL) Cholesterol Respectively. These are the numbers I FINIALLY received from my physical over 6 weeks ago. Both are very high (the numbers and the amount of time that it took to get the results back). Unfortunately or fortunately, my Triglycerides (the portion of Cholesterol effected by diet change) was relatively low a 51. This means a big change in diet is not needed, but in order to lower my LDL and Total Cholesterol medication will likely be required. So as of tomorrow there is one more number 20mg – that is 20mg of Lipitor or its generic equivalent until my LDL reaches 160.

WEEK 8 BAPTISM WEEKEND

This past weekend our little girl alley was baptized. This was a difficult diet weekend full of many celebrations with family and friends. I must say I overindulged some. We had a large meal Saturday and Sunday at the house, and Friday night we went to one of my favorite restaurants Famous Dave’s. I am sure that I exceeded my daily requirement of calories each of these days.

Thankfully, when the weekend was over – the damage was minimal. I had only gained ½ of pound – and it was well worth it. This morning when I weighed myself I was 205lbs still in the overweight group, but now down 18lbs from my max. I think that this proves that even if you momentarily trip and fall – if you get back up you will be able to keep going down the right path.

I am still surprised at how big I am even with the weight loss. I still have a pretty big belly on me. I am hoping that will be gone be the time this is all over. I added a picture that was taken while surfing last winter while in Hawaii. At that time, I was really surprised at how big I looked. Now I am starting to realize just how large obese is. Maybe, after the weight loss is done and I am maintaining a Healthy weight. I will have to go back to Hawaii and take another set of surfing pictures.

ANOTHER PEARL OF WISDOM (WEEK 6)

I am adding an additional pearl of wisdom to the 2 I have discovered thus far.

3) Eat where the skinny people eat (the reverse is also true -Do NOT eat where the Over weight people eat)

The few of times I have had very difficult times finding anything remotely healthy to eat this observation has held true. The most glairing example was during a trip to Red Lobster. I was there with a friend and we were both amazed by the level of obesity at the restaurant. Generally, seafood is a relatively healthy choice but Red Lobster is definitely an exception. The free cheddar rolls are tasty but must be 400 calories each, and practically everything was breaded and fried.

I was reminded of this idea by watching the movie Super Size Me this last weekend. In the movie, it seemed like every time the star Morgan Spurlock was in a McDonalds there was a substantially overweight person in the shot with him. No good can come from frequenting these places. Trust me they used to know me by name at McDonalds.

I am still going strong. The scale read 208.5 th Tuesday just shy of 15 pounds lost. This still puts me on track to drop into the quote “normal” range before then end of the year. Finally, a quick mention (and that a girl) that my mom has lost 10 pounds since I started dieting.
